Intelligence-Led Deployment
Operational deployments are planned using intelligence, offending trends, retailer feedback and emerging risk information, allowing resources to be focused where they will have the greatest impact.

Our Services
TradeCraft's Crime Reduction Unit provides specialist plain-clothes operational support to Business Improvement Districts through intelligence-led deployment, structured offender management and partnership working.
Crime Reduction Unit
Rather than simply responding to incidents, the CRU focuses on identifying repeat offenders, disrupting persistent criminality, improving evidential outcomes and supporting businesses through a visible programme of reassurance, engagement and intelligence gathering.
Every deployment is supported by documented operational procedures, governance, intelligence management and evidence-led reporting.

The Challenge
Across many Business Improvement Districts, a relatively small number of repeat offenders are responsible for a disproportionate level of business crime. The Metropolitan Police recently reported that just 104 prolific offenders were linked to more than 4,000 shoplifting offences in London over two years, around a third of all incidents where a suspect was identified.
Whilst many security deployments understandably focus on visibility and immediate response, long-term crime reduction relies upon understanding offender behaviour, identifying repeat patterns and supporting coordinated action between businesses, police and BID management.
The Solution
The CRU combines operational deployment with intelligence development, business engagement and structured reporting to provide Business Improvement Districts with a proactive approach to reducing crime.
Our objective is not simply to respond when offences occur, but to help clients understand, manage and reduce repeat offending across the BID footprint.
How It Works

Operational deployments are planned using intelligence, offending trends, retailer feedback and emerging risk information, allowing resources to be focused where they will have the greatest impact.

Deployments are undertaken by two-person intelligence-led operational teams working within documented operational procedures and clearly defined legal powers. Activity includes offender identification, business engagement, safeguarding, intelligence gathering and evidential support.

Operational activity contributes to a continually developing intelligence picture. Repeat offenders, offending patterns, locations, behaviours and emerging trends are analysed to support both operational deployment and longer-term crime reduction.

The CRU works collaboratively with Business Improvement Districts, businesses, policing teams, councils and community safety partners to improve information sharing, support investigations and strengthen local problem-solving.
Beyond Patrol
Operational deployment forms only one element of TradeCraft's approach. Supporting every deployment is a wider framework of intelligence, governance and partnership working.
Technology & Intelligence
TradeCraft's operational capability is supported by digital intelligence and reporting systems designed to provide clients with meaningful operational insight rather than simply recording incidents.
01
Operational incidents, retailer engagement and intelligence are recorded through structured case management systems, creating a comprehensive operational picture across the BID.
02
Known offenders, repeat offending patterns and emerging intelligence are recorded, analysed and managed to support operational planning and partnership activity.
03
Witness statements, evidential material and supporting documentation are prepared to assist businesses and policing partners where appropriate.
04
Clients receive structured reporting designed to demonstrate operational activity, emerging risks, repeat offender management and wider community safety outcomes.
Governance
TradeCraft believes effective crime reduction depends upon strong governance as much as operational capability.
Our operating model has been developed with advisory input from former senior Metropolitan Police officers, and our operational decision-making is structured around the National Decision Model used across UK policing, adapted for our private-sector role and legal powers.

Why TradeCraft
TradeCraft combines operational experience with structured governance, intelligence management and collaborative partnership working.
Our approach enables Business Improvement Districts to move beyond reactive incident response towards a more coordinated, evidence-led model of business crime reduction.
Flexible Deployment
Every BID has different challenges, priorities and resources. TradeCraft works with clients to develop an operational model that reflects local crime patterns, business needs and available budget rather than applying a standardised approach.
